Wellborn, Cole reelected to State Transportation Board

Legislators from the 3rd and 8th congressional districts on Wednesday unanimously reelected retired Columbus banker Sam Wellborn and former state legislator Jim Cole of Forsyth to new terms on the State Transportation Board.

Wellborn, reelected to a fifth five-year term on the board that sets policy for the Department of Transportation, is the longest serving member of the board.  He said he has served with “eight commissioners and 15 board chairmen.”

“Emory McClinton and I have both been on the board for 20 years, but I was elected a month ahead of Emory,” said Wellborn, who holds the 3rd District board seat.

Cole, who served three terms in the Georgia House of Representatives, was first elected to the DOT board in 2010 to fill out an unexpired term.  Cole is currently the athletic director at Mercer University in Macon.
