3 special legislative elections set for Jan. 8

The unexpected resignations of three legislators who were reelected just last month has resulted in the scheduling of three special elections for Jan. 8.

Gov. Nathan Deal has issued calls for special elections in Senate District 21 (vacated this week by Chip Rogers), House District 21 (vacated by Sean Jerguson so that he can run for Rogers’ Senate seat) and Senate District 11 (vacated Thursday by John Bulloch).

Qualifying for each of these elections will be held on Dec. 10, 11, and 12. If a runoff election is required in any district, it will be held Feb. 5.

Rep. Sean Jerguson (R-Woodstock) and State Transportation Board member Brandon Beach have already said they are running for Rogers’ Senate seat.

Scot Turner, a Cherokee County Republican Party activist who lost the 2012 GOP primary election for House District 21, will run again for that House seat.
