Deal appoints four new judges

Gov. Nathan Deal appointed four judges Monday, three of them in Columbus and the fourth in Middle Georgia’s Oconee Judicial Circuit.

The governor appointed Columbus attorney Ron Mullins and Muscogee County State Court Judge Maureen C. Gottfried to Superior Court judgeships on the Chattahoochee Judicial Circuit.

Mullins replaces retired judge John Allen while Gottfried will fill a newly created judgeship effective Jan. 1.

Deal also named Muscogee Solicitor General Benjamin S. Richardson to replace Gottfried on the State Court bench.

In the Oconee Judicial Circuit, Deal appointed Eastman attorney C. Michael Johnson to a newly created Superior Court judgeship. The judicial circuit encompasses Bleckley, Dodge, Telfair, Montgomery, Pulaski, and Wheeler counties.

All of the judges appointed Monday by the governor had been on short lists of candidates recommended by the Judicial Nominating Commission.
