House, Senate send supplemental budget to Deal

The state Senate and House of Representatives completed their work Thursday on the amended state budget for the current fiscal year and sent the spending plan to Gov. Nathan Deal for his signature.

The two chambers avoided the need to appoint a conference committee on the budget after each side agreed to minor changes made by the other side.

The House voted 167-0 to approve the $21.1 billion midyear budget and the Senate followed with a 50-1 vote. The only negative vote in either chamber was cast by Sen. Elena Parent (D-Atlanta).

With the amended budget finalized, the House and Senate can now concentrate on the proposed $21.8 billion state budget for the fiscal year that starts July 1.
