Gilligan, Metze win state House runoff elections

[private]Sheri Smallwood Gilligan and Marie Robinson Metze won special election runoffs Tuesday to claim a pair of vacant state House seats in the Metro Atlanta area.

Gilligan, a Republican and former CIA analyst, piled up 75 percent of the vote to clobber attorney David Van Sant for the House District 24 seat in Forsyth County that was vacated through the resignation of Mark Hamilton.

Metze, a retired educator and Democratic Party activist, polled 58 percent of the vote to rout attorney Shelitha Renee Robertson in Atlanta’s House District 55. Metze, a Democrat, will replace longtime legislator Tyrone Brooks.
