Kemp sets qualifying dates for special elections

[private]Secretary of State Brian Kemp said candidate qualifying will be held next week for special elections scheduled for Nov. 3 in two legislative districts.

Kemp said qualifying for the House District 122 and Senate District 43 elections will begin at 9 a.m. next Monday, Sept. 14, and end at 12 noon on Sept. 16 at the state elections office near the capitol.

Candidates will be running to replace Ron Ramsey in Senate District 43, which includes portions of DeKalb, Rockdale, and Newton counties, and Ben Harbin in House District 122, which is located in Columbia County.

Ramsey stepped down from the Senate when he was appointed a State Court judge and Harbin retired from the House to work in the Southern Strategy lobbying firm.
