Two candidates enter race to replace Tolleson

[private]Two candidates from Houston County have quickly announced they will run in the special election to replace state Sen. Ross Tolleson (R-Perry) after he steps down from the Georgia Senate.

Perry businessman Michael Reece said Thursday he will run for Tolleson’s Senate seat, following by one day a similar announcement from Larry Walker III, also a businessman from Perry.

Tolleson, a senator since 2003, announced earlier this week he has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and will retire from the Legislature Nov. 1. After he vacates the seat, a special election will have to be called.

Walker, the son of former legislator Larry Walker, ran in a special election earlier this year to fill a House seat that was vacated by Larry O’Neal. He lost in a runoff to Shaw Blackmon.
