Huckaby names two interim college presidents

[private]University System Chancellor Hank Huckaby announced Wednesday the appointment of interim presidents at two small colleges in southwest Georgia.

Richard Carvajal, the president of Bainbridge State College since 2001, will become interim president of Darton State College in Albany effective Dec. 16. Shawn McGee, the vice president of business and operations at Bainbridge State College, will become Bainbridge’s interim president.

Carvajal replaces Darton State’s interim president, Paul Jones, who has been named president of Fort Valley State University. Darton is in the process of consolidating with Albany State University.

“Dr. Carvajal has done a tremendous job leading Bainbridge State through incredible change over the last almost five years,” said Huckaby. “We are confident in his ability to lead Darton State, especially through the consolidation process.”

McGee has been a vice president at Bainbridge State since March 2010. He will replace Carvajal as interim president on Dec. 16.

“We have no doubt that he will lead Bainbridge State with distinction and continue to serve its mission to educate the citizens of Bainbridge and southwest Georgia,” Huckaby said.
