Peake makes late try to pass medical cannabis bill

[private]Rep. Allen Peake (R-Macon) is making one last stab at passing a bill that would expand the parameters of the state’s medical cannabis law.

Peake used SB 145, a bill originally dealing with the membership of the state Board of Community Health, as the vehicle for his measure that would expand the list of conditions that can legally be treated with medical cannabis.

The House voted 157-7 to pass the revised SB 145 and send it back to the Senate.

“I’m asking my Senate colleagues, please pass this bill,” Peake said.

Peake’s original bill passed the House but was blocked in the Senate by Sen. Renee Unterman (R-Buford), chair of the Health and Human Services Committee. The odds are long that SB 145 will get considered by the Senate before the legislative session ends at midnight.
