Columbus congressional candidate dies

[private]Columbus attorney Bobby Scott, a Republican candidate for the 2nd Congressional District seat, was found dead Saturday afternoon at his home.

The Muscogee County coroner’s office said Scott, 40, who suffered from diabetic ketoacidosis, died in his sleep.

Scott was running in the Republican primary against Greg Duke and Diane Vann for the right to face Democratic Rep. Sanford Bishop in the general election.

Scott once practiced law with state Sen. Josh McKoon (R-Columbus), who referred to Scott in a Facebook posting as a “very good friend.”

“We practiced law together for several years and shared a residence in Lakebottom early in our careers,” McKoon said. “He was a wonderful person, diligent attorney and great father. My heart breaks for his son and his family.”
