Jane Miller Ross, Zell Miller’s sister, dies

[private]Jane Miller Ross, the sister of former governor and senator Zell Miller, died July 27 in Towns County at the age of 90.

She was born in 1926 to Stephen Grady Miller and Birdie Bryan Miller, who lived in the mountain town of Young Harris.  Grady Miller taught and was the dean at Young Harris College, and also served a term in the state legislature.

Grady Miller died just 17 days after his son, Zell, was born in 1932, leaving Birdie Miller to raise her two children alone.

Jane Miller graduated from Towns County High School and LaGrange College.  She married William Ezekiel “Red” Ross, living with him in Oregon and then in Birmingham before they retired to Young Harris.

In addition to her brother, she is survived by two daughters, Mary Newcome of Peachtree City and Carol Rhoads of Denmark, Maine.

Her death was initially reported in the Towns County Herald.
