School takeover plan clobbered in AJC poll

[private]The school takeover constitutional amendment was hammered in a poll commissioned by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, with nearly three-fifths of those surveyed opposing it.

The poll showed 59 percent opposed to Gov. Nathan Deal’s Opportunity School District proposal while only 34 percent supported it and 8 percent were undecided.

Ironically, the lowest level of support for the proposal was among Republicans — only 28 percent of those polled said they supported the amendment that is on the Nov. 8 ballot, even though it is being pushed by a Republican governor.

The AJC poll was the second one released this week that showed Amendment 1 to be losing. A poll released by WSB-TV also showed only 34 percent support for it, with 44 percent opposed and 22 percent undecided.

If the polls are accurate and the amendment loses, it will be a stunning political defeat for Deal.
