House panel votes out craft brewer bill

[private]The House Regulated Industries Committee gave a favorable recommendation Tuesday to SB 85, legislation that would allow craft brewers and distillers to make retail sales of their alcoholic products on their premises.

“It might mean some economic development for the state of Georgia,” said Rep. Howard Maxwell (R-Dallas), the committee chairman.

“We have the first one (a distillery) opening in Savannah since prohibition,” said Rep. Ron Stephens (R-Savannah).

SB 85 now moves to the rules committee and could come up for a floor vote by the end of the week.
