GBA approves bond sale for new judicial complex

[private]The board of the Georgia Building Authority unanimously approved Wednesday the sale of $105 million in state bonds for the construction of a new judicial complex that will house the state Supreme Court and Court of Appeals.GBA14jun2017

Work has already begun to prepare the foundation of the new building, which will sit on the site of the state archives building that was imploded in March.

“We’ll be pouring concrete in July and it will be ready by August 2019,” said Steve Stancil, executive director of the Georgia Building Authority.  Gilbane Building Co. is the general contractor for the project.

The state has already budgeted or spent about $17 million on the complex, so its final price tag of $122 million would make it the most expensive state government building ever constructed in Georgia.
