Republican pollster says Ossoff has 3-point lead over Handel

[private]As the nation’s most expensive – and seemingly longest – congressional race ever heads into the home stretch, a Republican polling firm says its latest survey shows Democrat Jon Ossoff with a three-point lead over Republican Karen Handel.

The Trafalgar Group poll, which counted “leaners” with those who said they were definitely supporting one of the candidates, had Ossoff at 50.22 percent and Handel at 47.46 percent.

The poll of 1,100 likely voters was conducted June 10-13 and has a margin of error of 2.9 percent.

Ossoff has a 56-44 percent lead among those who have voted early, with the number of early ballots expected to exceed 110,000. Handel has a 50-46.5 percent advantage among those who haven’t voted yet. The last day for voting early is Friday.

Democrats are more likely to vote early, while Republicans generally have a heavier vote on election day.

Handel is a making a late push for those election day voters with a get-out-the-vote rally at Peachtree-DeKalb Airport on Saturday that features appearances by former congressman Tom Price and former governor Sonny Perdue.

Donald Trump, House Speaker Paul Ryan and Vice President Mike Pence have already made live appearances for Handel during the earlier stages of the campaign.

An average of the polls released since June 5 at Real Clear Politics shows Ossoff with an average lead of 49.5-46.3 percent (3.2 points) over Handel.
