Weaver in line for Georgia Southwestern presidency

[private]Neal Weaver, a Louisiana college administrator, is the sole finalist for the president’s job at Georgia Southwestern State University in Americus, the Board of Regents announced.

The regents have scheduled a teleconference meeting for June 29, when they will vote formally on Weaver’s appointment. He will replace Charles Patterson, who had been serving as interim president for more than two years.

Weaver is the vice president for university advancement and innovation at Nicholls State University in Thibodaux, La.

“Dr. Weaver’s experience in higher education provides a strong foundation to drive innovation, increase enrollment and strengthen relationships with the community and region,” Chancellor Steve Wrigley said.

Weaver previously worked at West Texas A&M University as vice president for institutional advancement and executive director of the WTAMU Foundation. He also was vice president for university relations, director of university relations, and director of public relations at Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, Okla.

He has a doctorate in organizational leadership from the University of Oklahoma. He received an MBA from Southeastern Oklahoma State University in Durant and a bachelor of arts in speech/communications from Oklahoma Panhandle State University in Goodwell.
