Beck announces campaign for insurance commissioner

[private]Jim Beck, the former chief of staff for state insurance Commissioner Ralph Hudgens, said Tuesday he will run for his former boss’ job.

Beck, who more recently has been the head of the Georgia Christian Coalition, said “families deserve bold, experienced, and innovative leadership in the insurance commissioner’s office.”

“Dramatic insurance rate increases have left many Georgia families struggling to pay premiums for even the most basic protection,” Beck said. “Simply put, the family budget has taken an unprecedented beating.”

Hudgens said last month he would not run for a third term as insurance commissioner, setting off a scramble among candidates wanting the job. Republicans Shane Mobley and Jay Florence are running, as are Democrats Cindy Zeldin and Tomeka Kimbrough.
