Trump nominates Branch, Baker for federal judgeships

[private]The White House announced Thursday that two Georgia judges have been nominated by Donald Trump for federal court judgeships.

Elizabeth L. “Lisa” Branch, a judge on the Court of Appeals of Georgia, was nominated to be a Circuit Judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit, which is based in Atlanta. Branch was named to the Georgia Court of Appeals in 2012 by Gov. Nathan Deal.

R. Stan Baker of St. Simons Islane, a federal magistrate judge for the Southern District of Georgia, was nominated to be judge on the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Georgia.

Georgia’s senators did not object to the nominations, which have to be confirmed by the U.S. Senate.

“I applaud the president’s choices and look forward to working with these excellent judges as the confirmation process moves forward in the Senate,” Sen. Johnny Isakson said.

“I look forward to working through the Senate confirmation process with Lisa Branch on her nomination to a Georgia-based seat on the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals and Stan Baker on his nomination to be a judge in the Southern District of Georgia,” said Sen. David Perdue.
