Poll shows Bottoms moving closer to runoff spot with Norwood in mayor’s race

[private]In the battle to see who will make the runoff with Mary Norwood in the Atlanta mayor’s race, City Council member Keisha Lance Bottoms appears to be putting some distance between herself and the other contenders.

A poll commissioned by WXIA-TV has Norwood’s support almost unchanged at 28 percent with Bottoms in second place with 15 percent.

City Council President Ceasar Mitchell is in third place with 10 percent while four candidates are tied at 7 percent: former state senator Vincent Fort, City Councilman Kwanza Hall, Cathy Woolard and Peter Aman.

“Norwood’s support is disproportionately old, white, conservative and Republican,” said the polling firm, Survey USA. “Bottom’s support is middle-aged, female, black, moderate and Democratic.”

Survey USA added: “Norwood and Bottoms run effectively even among lower-income voters; Norwood leads by 20 points among the city’s most affluent voters.”

Norwood was defeated by Kasim Reed in the 2009 mayor’s race. Bottoms is backed by Reed in this mayor’s race.
